Five of our favorite social games of 2024

As you may have seen on our website, GGWP’s game moderation tools are created by gamers for gamers. Because of that, we wanted to take the turning of the calendar as an opportunity to celebrate some of our favorite games of 2024. Since GGWP is an important ally in creating a strong community, we thought it would be fitting to talk about our favorite social games and events of 2024.

These great games have all made incredible strides in creating and sustaining their player bases and communities. If you’re ready to take your player safety and experience to the next level, we’re prepared to meet and discuss how GGWP’s moderation platform can aid you in accomplishing your goals and making your players feel welcome every time they turn on your game. Final Fantasy XIV

More than a fair share of the GGWP team and their friends/family have poured many hours into Square Enix’s critically acclaimed MMORPG. We were all eager to jump into its latest expansion, Dawntrail, and we were beyond excited to see Xbox players get the opportunity to share in the fun we’ve been having over the last decade-plus. With a huge graphics update and enticing new content for players to enjoy, Final Fantasy XIV experienced its highest concurrent player count since the revamped A Realm Reborn launched in 2013. Perhaps even more impressive than that, Square Enix’s servers held up during the Dawntrail launch, allowing the FFXIV community to experience the new content uninterrupted.

The Finals

Embark Studios’ The Finals immediately caught our attention with its fun game show premise, and the studio’s commitment to its community has kept us hoping we were good enough to come out on top throughout the calendar year. Embark and Nexon’s adrenaline-fueled FPS did much more than rest on its laurels, as it gave players five seasons’ worth of content over its first year. Not only that, but in-game events exposed players to new modes, new maps, new weapons, new gadgets, an avalanche of cosmetics, and even an enhanced console experience. In the crowded first-person shooter genre, The Finals felt like a breath of fresh air, and Embark’s steady stream of updates kept the experience from getting stale.

League of Legends

Can you believe it’s already been more than 15 years since League of Legends launched? And yet, here we are still loving every last content and system update from Riot Games. The genre-leading MOBA benefitted from various updates and improvements to matchmaking and behavioral systems, while the unbelievable Netflix series, Arcane, brought the long-running franchise into even more households. When you combine that with the thrilling, tournament-winning performance from T1’s Faker at the League of Legends World Championship, we continually found ourselves returning to Runeterra throughout the entirety of the last year.

Marvel Rivals

As the newest entry on this list, Marvel Rivals has sunk its hooks into us. A hero shooter by NetEase Games, Marvel Rivals delivered a massive roster of our favorite characters from the pages and screens of Marvel’s most iconic stories. With 33 heroes at launch and more on the way, players were delighted by the fast-paced gameplay that filled a gap left by other, more established titles in the genre. By launching simultaneously across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, Marvel Rivals made a strong first impression to a wide audience, immediately gaining a huge community. And rightfully so; NetEase Games came out swinging with its content offerings, roadmaps, and core gameplay in a way that has us eagerly anticipating what could be on the horizon for the brand-new game.

Sky: Children of the Light

Thatgamecompany revolutionized the way players can interact with one another in their 2012 hit Journey, and Sky: Children of the Light has carried that torch for the beloved developer in the succeeding years. To celebrate five years of Sky, thatgamecompany hosted two hybrid events for its passionate community. SkyFest let players gather in China and Japan to experience real-world recreations of the in-game Aviary Village, complete with pop-up shops, developer presentations, photo opportunities, and in-person minigames. But thatgamecompany knew not everyone could make it to those events, so the studio also celebrated with its global audience in-game, letting the people who have been a part of Sky’s five-year journey to 2024 feel like a meaningful part of the festivities.

And, of course, there are so many other amazing socially driven games that delivered content to their enthusiastic players throughout 2024, and we can’t wait to see what developers and publishers have in store for players heading into 2025.

If you’re looking to build or maintain your game’s community in a simple, effective, and comprehensive manner, look no further than GGWP when it comes to achieving all your 2025 community and game moderation goals!
